Abstract

Uttrasonography proved to be very effective for detection and evaluation of thyroid nodules. Authors analyzed ultrasonographic findings of 50 cases of thyroid nodules confirmed by operation .and pathologic examination.
Of the parameters studied, the following parameters were helpful in differentiating benignancy and malignancy. The presence of cystic nodule or cystic component (echocomplex nodule) and a peripheral hypoechoic halo were observed more commonly with benign nodules. Although these findings were present most often with benign nodules, they may occasionally be seen with malignant nodule. It was difficult to make a diagnosis by sonographic findings alone.
